Then they cut to the standard “this is what the politicians are saying” clips. Who did they have on? Republican Senators Chuck Hagel and John McCain.
These are two potential Republican candidates in 2008. One whom spent most of the last five years with his mouth firmly planted on the buttocks of George W. Bush, and only now that the polls show Americans are sick of being lied to does he come back to reality (yeah, some “maverick”).
So why didn’t they show a Democrat who was opposed to the way this war of choice has treated our troops and what it has done to our military? Hell, this is local news, we have our own potential Democratic candidate saying these things all the time – Sen. Kerry. And then there’s Kennedy. Hell, Feingold, another potential ’08 runner, has been against this war since the outset; he has the most credibilty of all. But no, they enable the Republicans who are now opposing some aspects of the war to offuscate their initial support for Bush by giving them several seconds to state their new views (especially McCain; Hagel at least has some credibility here) and no balance for the other side from those Democrats who’ve been saying the same thing for years.
In a lame news world which is all “he said she said” partisan bickering with no in-depth analysis of actual objective facts, Channel 7 can’t even get that balance right.
I don’t. It’s useless.
