A long time ago, Worcester’s newspapers – then there were two, The Telegram and The Gazette – had an owner-editor who was famous for his one sentence editorials, so here it goes:
Politically-speaking, whatever else is on your mind, it really does not matter if it is not directed at electing our Democratic nominees, Deval Patrick and Tim Murray.
(Now, I would be remiss if I did not point out that folks have been lax in completing this fun-filled homework assignment – get on the ball, people! 😉
Please share widely!
And, there’s nothing that gets a Democrat like me to get behind Deval’s campaign like the cheap, tired attack lines that Muffy Healey (yes, I cribbed that from that Howie Carr’s column) trotted out last night against Deval.
<
p>
Keep attacking, Muffy. You’ll quickly chase away any lingering misgivings that supporters of Reilly or Gabs may still harbor about Deval….
This seems like a good place to share and I haven’t even put this up on Truth & Progress yet. I can’t say who…but I hear on good authority that there is a high profile Kerry Healey supporter who has jumped ship to Deval’s campaign. The story should be on your doorstep in The Globe tomorrow morning.
<
p>
Keep your eyes peeled for “Republicans for Patrick” too. I bet there’s a bunch of ’em fed up with the right-wing talking points and thirsting for candor and leadership.
<
p>
John Walsh? I might have heard him hint about something like that very recently.
It reads like a bunch of baby seals hugging before the slaughter.
<
p>
Yes, we have a thoroughbred, but we are 0 for 4 over the last 16 years. We need less hugging and more strategery.
We’ve got to bring the Democratic party together at the same time we respond to the tired, shop-worn attack lines from Muffy’s camp.
<
p>
I worked for 11 months for the Reilly campaign, and I can tell you one thing….
<
p>
There are a whole bunch of Reilly voters out there who would, were there not a sincere effort to reach out to them from the Deval campaign, vote for Muffy for one reason this November, and one reason only.
<
p>
And, yes, that reason is the great unmentionable in this campaign, thus far.
<
p>
Reilly most certainly did not pander to that great unmentionable during the primary campaign. One look at Reilly’s life story, and those folks who mentored him at critical times in his life, will tell you that Reilly would never pander to that great unmentionable in order to win an election.
<
p>
But, those voters are out there, and those voters are the voters who say they’re Democrats, but keep on pulling the lever for Republicans when the Corner Office is up for grabs.
<
p>
Party unity is very important. Deval’s got a lot of work to do to bring the party together, however unfair his situation might be.
do we need the RonCo hair-straightener too?
What the hell are you talking about? Pandering to a fringe minority (of any party) that makes their decision to not vote for someone because of their skin color? What pray tell do you propose needs to happen to bring these stalwart Ds back to us? (I promise not to move into your neighborhood, date your grand-daughter or scowl when you call me “boy”) Give me a break! I’m with Caralis, unity is great, let’s give it the appropriate 15 minutes and move on to waging a campaign. The lovefest is over.
I’m talking about the elderly voters I called and called and called in Lowell, Chickopee, Springfield, Fall River, and Southie, on the last day of the primary election.
<
p>
I’m not pimpin’ the unmentionable issue. I’m just saying that it’s out there.
<
p>
Do you net-roots fans think that wealthy voters in Brookline and Newton will put Deval over the top in November?
<
p>
Take a look at the past 16 years. Take a long, long, 16-year-look at the parade of feckless, do-nothing Republican governors.
<
p>
You’ve got to bring the idiots in Southie and New Bedford, who are still registered as Democrats, but who still tune into Howie Carr every day at 3 o’clock, back into the party, or else you’re going to lose, once again.
<
p>
I’m on board with Deval. But, he’s got to reach out to the ugly people who still blame affirmative action for their favorite nephew’s failure to join the Somerville Fire Department.
<
p>
It’s the political reality in this fine Commonwealth. We’ve got to deal with it.
I can think of no better way to change someone’s mind than to tell them straight up – you’re wrong, your ugly and you’re an idiot!
<
p>
Now that’s taking the bull by the horns! In fact I’m going to try this strategy on my wife tonight. I’ll let you know how it went.
<
p>
Thanks!
It’s my personal opinion that someone who won’t vote for a given candidate solely on the basis of some immutable characteristic that candidate possesses IS stupid.
<
p>
But, my opinion aside, all I was saying is that party unity is important as we head into November, and Deval has to reach out to conservative Democrats who voted for Reilly, or else those voters are going to sit this one out, or worse, vote for Muffy Healey. Remember, it’s all about having voters who have “checked out” check back in, right?
<
p>
Deval has to court local electeds who endorsed Reilly, for instance.
I agree. Deval won. Even though I was in another camp, it’s time to unify the party behind the standard bearer, however much I disagree with Patrick on a few things. He’s still the Democrat.
