I had a nice conversation with a Jehovah’s Witness. Seriously. They had just bought the house from a couple of Dems on our walk list and were doing some work on the house so I assume it was very recently. Anyways not knowing he was the wrong guy I offered him our literature. He calmly explained to their religious views on politics and therefore why he does not vote. It was an interesting relgion / philopshy lesson. I can’t say I buy it, but he does and works for him. It made for a memorable moment.
My experience is that Jehovah’s Witnesses are unfailingly polite.

Can we say that about Democratic canvassers? 🙂

I listened to his explanation, told him I respected his view and thank him for his time before leaving. I hope others would do the same.

“Two jews walk in to a convent…” well it would have been funny, but honestly we chickened out. There was a convent with many registered Dem nun on our walk list, but it was Sunday and the sisters were hosting an event at their convent so we figured it would be a bad time to disturb them. We might go back another time, but Sunday seemed a bit rude.

Totally crazy. It was for the Chang-Diaz campaign in 2nd Suffolk, and I swear they were trying to break me 🙂 But let’s see, funny stories…
<
p>
– canine-related incidents are common on the campaign trail … one woman opened her door and my first mission immediately became to dive for the collar of her very large dog as he barreled past her out the door. Working together, we were able to herd him back into the house, quite against his will. It was a great ice-breaker 🙂

– not really a funny story, but…just as I was starting my canvass (and noting what a pretty neighborhood I was in, somewhere in W Roxbury), a B-2 bomber flew overhead. This is a stealth bomber, there is nothing else in the sky like it. I have never seen one in flight before. I was totally freaked out. Found out later, it was a fly-over for the Pats game. (I had the same experience in 2004 when several fighters in formation buzzed Boston for the Sox championship. I was walking down Mass Ave, and the jet down-blast was so loud, a young child on the street immediately started crying.) I’m not a fan of displaying our military might at our sporting events. And I wonder, do any Republicans complain about the associated waste of taxpayer dollars??

I hope you weren’t canvassing in West Rox for Sonia, since it’s not in her district. 🙂

Maybe you were on Moss Hill or Bournewood?

I was in regular old Rox, not west Rox.
That’s what you get after 5 hours of canvassing…

May you only encounter cats and kind people through the primary!

Now I can’t go to bed until I shower…thanks a heckuva lot, H!

I was just concerned about the West Rox mention, there’s so little time left before the primary, didn’t want anyone going geographically astray.

This afternoon 16 Brandeis students went canvassing in the immediate area around Brandeis — Waltham Wards 5 and 7. All told we knocked on 341 doors and spoke with 132 voters.
I’m finding a confusingly large amount of still-undecided voters, but anecdotally, we only ran into one Gabs, the rest were Patrick (and some had been ID’ed before as undecided) and no Reilly. So much for this being Reilly country!

(Just as an aside, others canvassing this weekend, especially in the high-end Belvedere neighborhood, found the opposite – less Gabs, a few Reilly, a decent amount for Patrick, and quite a lot still undecided.)

As for funny stories…strangely, nothing really strange or funny happened. Lots of very nice people though.

Really. From a very nice woman. I asked her what specific plans Deval had in mind if he wins. Any specific legislation? Anything/ She politely said she did not know.
Ahhh, the passion.

Everyone knows you can’t see a B-2 bomber: they are invisible … you can’t even find the total cost for them in the federal budget …
