I logged on to BMG this morning around 11:30 and expected to read about what I thought was the big political news of the day.
First I found Charley and Pablos posts on Ralph Martins defense of Deval.
Then I noticed that mem from Somerville read deep into the paper about an embarrassing fundraising problem Healey/Hillman have.
Funny, I thought the front-page story about a special commission recommending to the increase the gas tax by 9 cents a gallon and reinstating Mass Pike tolls was a new twist that merited a little discussion 4 weeks before the election. Guess not.
Please share widely!

When I saw today’s Globe, I gave myself a pat on the back for being prescient in a post yesterday regarding transportation and transit funding. (Although I did think that the transport funds would continue to be primarily federal, not new state revenues.)

This morning, I fired off an e-mail to Ben Downing’s campaign, the Democratic state Senate candidate from the Berkshire, Hampshire & Franklin district, recommending that we all remind the Republicans that they were the ones who took a sledgehammer to the toll booths ten years ago, and that they were the ones who promised that creation of the Metropolitan Highway System would protect revenues and expenditures for projects outside the Big Dig. As I recall, one penny out of the 5-cent sales tax in MA is already dedicated to the MBTA.

How much should outlying areas continue to pay for Republican mismanagement of Boston-based transportation infrastructure? How many more fees can Romney/Healey impose on us before people take notice of their dishonest taxation double-talk, and demand new management?

And voting for Healey is voting for more failures, mismanagement and waste.
