Well, the Democrats may have won the battle last Tuesday, but the right wing still has the winning edge.
I accepted the fact that we had to support Democratic candidates who hardly represent progressive values. There was much more at stake. However, beyond the control of leadership positions and the potential for some investigations, did we really change the direction of our country?
I’m still concerned that rights for workers, women and homosexuals will continue to be compromised so that the big picture can remain in sight. Which is fine, unless you start to lose sight of yourself in that big picture.
And now, just as we come down from the excitement of a great win that could not have been achieved without some form of cohesion, I find that the right wing has struck again. After successfully dividing the country, they may have unintentionally divided the progressive movement in Massachusetts. I really hope that doesn’t happen.
We may not agree on the process; however, I think most of us are after the same outcome. That being said, I will do everything I can to make sure my rights are not put to a public vote. If I fail, I hope I can ultimately count on those who disagree with me on the process to agree with me on the issue by voting down an amendment to take away my rights.
