If you are interested in being a delegate to the State Convention in May and have not already been elected, you may be eligible to apply as an add-on delegate. There are three categories for eligibility:
– youth: between 18 and 35.
– minority
– disabled
For those of you who were involved in a Democratic campaign, this is a great opportunity to apply to be a delegate or to encourage someone you met to apply. Use this deadline as a way to stay in touch with people who were involved and to reach out to people who might become involved. Make a phone call, send an e-mail, talk to a co-worker. It is important for us as Democrats, to talk about what we believe. This is a chance to do just that.
State conventions are always a lot of fun and are a way to network and to learn. Interested Democrats can also take part as volunteers or visitors. I’ll be talking more about that later.
For people who applied as youth delegates last year and did not get accepted, please be aware that there is a much better chance of being selected this year. For those applying, it is important that your application is submitted ON TIME and that it is COMPLETELY filled out. Be absolutely sure that you fill in the SENATE DISTRICT.
Here’s the information on the convention and the add-on application form.
Here’s the summary on the purpose of the convention as listed on the Democratic Party site:
What is the MA Democratic State Convention? Every other year, a State Convention is held to discuss issues relevant to the Massachusetts Democratic Party. This year, we will be discussing grass-roots participation and how to continue to increase involvement in the Democratic Party. The one day conference will feature trainings for new and seasoned activists.

serving as an add-on may boost the chances that you get elected to serve as a delegate in future years, including nominating convention years.

Plus, different groups have great parties full of free food and (sometimes) free booze. That is definitely an added bonus.

I totally forgot to show up on my town’s electing process and would love to serve, so I’ll probably sign up to be an add-on this year.
