Doonesbury Interviews FOF’s Dobson

April 15, 2007 By Laurel

So, you’re a Republican candidate yearning to pander to the fundigelical AmTalibanistical vote.  But you’re a serial adulterer.  Who do you go to for “the” stamp of approval?  Why, that would be James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Anus Family.

Today’s Doonesbury hits the hypocritical nail on it’s smarmy head.  Enjoy.

Dobson and most evangelicals are theologically Calvinist and more broadly subscribe to the values of the reformation one of Luther’s 93 thesis was an attack on a priests ability to absolve a sinner of guilt through confession. So not only is it political pandering at its worst, Dobson is contradicting his own faith since only God and not James Dobson can forgive Newt for his sins.

… Dobson isn’t ordained at all.

And Dobson would be the first to tell you that. His claim to fame is not necessarily Christian prosetylization so much as it is family and conventional marriage acvocacy.

His USC doctorate is a PhD. in Child Development. He is a strong proponent of family and conventional marriage because of his child advocacy, his support of corporal punishment notwithstanding.
