You’re asking where is the basic human decency on a network that endeavors to rehabilitate criminals from the Reagan and Nixon administrations, and was spawned from the group that brought us “who wants to marry a millionaire”? Fox News, sir, has no decency.

In contrast to Boston’s daily of note, the Globe, whose Charlie Savage won a deserved Pulitzer Prize today for his reporting on Bush’s signing statements. Congrats to Savage and the Globe, still my favorite paper in New England.

But does the tone of the graphic have to echo an ad for coverage of a sporting event or political debate? I mean the pic of Greta is bit to chipper for my tastes. I am. however, suprised that there was no exclaimation point after “Worst Shooting in US History”.

I guess that wast Fox’s attempt at tastefulness.

…You’re asking where is the basic human decency on a network (Faux News)…Fox News, sir, has no decency
<
p>
Faux News doesn’t exist for the purpose of having “basic human decency” and it doesn’t even exist for the purpose of dispensing news, faux or not. It exists for the purpose of getting people to watch the advertisements, and the things (faux news) between the advertisements are just filler to try to entice viewers to watch the ads.
<
p>
That became clear to me in March 2001. I knew that viscerally (from a WSJ article! more tha a decade before), but, and I have related this story here elsewhere. The Chinese had forced down a US surveillance airplane. Faux news was “carrying” the non-story seemingly 24/7. I was in the gym changing room at around 5:30AM–they had a television that was tuned to Faux News channel. The Faux News commentator basically said that they had no idea what was going on, but that they would continue to carry the story anyway. After I got up off the floor, having laughed my ass off, I went out and did my workout.

Advertising driven media exists for one purpose and one purpose only. To sell eyeballs to advertisements. The rest is filler, for the purpose of trying to entice more eyeballs to view the advertisements. It really is as simple as that. Faux News has a target demographic, and it has targeted it quite well.
<
p>
If and when CNN or MSNBC determines their target demographic, they might do well, too. Apparently, they haven’t, and (except possibly for Olberman) they are trying to target the same demographic as Faux. Big mistake. The point being that viewers enticed by Faux News, aren’t going to be diverted to Faux Faux News. It really is as simple as that, too.

today on npr’s marketplace they reported that companies were paying top dollar to Google to have their ads appear when someone searched on terms such as “virginia shootings”. warms the cockles, does it not?
