DFA Meeting at Democratic State Convention this Saturday

May 18, 2007 By shai-sachs

If you’re going to the Democratic state convention on Saturday, you might want to check this out:

DFA members “meetup” – A few DFA leaders across the state thought that

it might be nice to get together informally at the Convention on

Saturday. Representative Jamie Eldridge has invited us to get together

at his “Meet and Greet” on Saturday from 3:45 to 5:00 PM at the Cape Cod

Lounge in the Student Union Building. Jamie is running for Congress and

has been unanimously endorsed by the local DFA group, as well as the

Brandeis DFA group. He has generously allowed us to share his space so

that we can have an opportunity to touch base with each other at an

informal gathering. We’ll be able to brainstorm about plans for a

statewide grassroots summit. Burlington would like to get together with

us this summer.

… via an email from Kate Donaghue.

We were discussing having a DFA meeting at the convention, at the Newton DFA meeting a couple of weeks ago.  We had some questions we didn’t know about convention process (could we get a room, for example?) so I texted Kate Donaghue on the theory that she would know the answers.  She called back, said it was too late to get our own room, so we brainstormed some ideas about combining with some person or group who already got one.  Jamie Eldridge happened to call her while we were talking, so she asked him and he apparently loved the idea.  (but then it took another week and a half to find out what room and time it would be, and figure out whether there would be a structure or it would be an open-ended meet & greet)

P.S. I was at the Brandeis DFA meeting where we voted to endorse Jamie.  It was a secret ballot, but turned out to be unanimous.

It will be great to touch base with other DFA folks.  Jamie was very generous about offering to share space.  Please spread the word among other DFAers.

Jamie’s reception is open to everyone!  We’d love to have you stop by.  All Democrats who are interested in learning more about the work of DFA are encouraged tocome to this informal meeting.

Inspired by the presidential campaign of Howard Dean, Democracy for America (DFA) is a political action committee dedicated to supporting fiscally responsible, socially progressive candidates at all levels of government?from school board to the presidency. DFA fights against the influence of the far right-wing and their radical, divisive policies and the selfish special interests that for too long have dominated our politics.

As a 59 year old NOT involved in “the Dean Campaign” I had no idea at all what DFA meant until you explained it.  I think that is a reminder to me, too, that an acronymn may mean nothing at all to many online readers – and to define all acronymns the first time they are used.
