The Supreme Court and the Bush/Cheney stonewall operations have shown themselves for what they are again this week. At the last televised debate in NH when asked what the first thing he would do as president Chris Dodd did not miss a beat when he said “Restore our civil rights.”

I’m proud of Deval Patrick getting the job to moderate tonight.

He gave nice short opening remarks and introduced the candidates although it appears that he left out Obama’s name. Did he miss anyone else?
lightiris says
He called them all, including Gravel. lol.
laurel says
huge applause, or so it sounded over the radio. who knew?!
cadmium says
must have been why I missed Obama, Kucinich and Dodd’s name called.
afertig says
Great opening, it was so cool to watch him on the stage with all the national figures. I also like that he was about to say “Commonwealth,” instead of country. Anybody who knows the Patrick campaign knows where most of these lines came from. It was a welcome sight to see them on the national stage.

Short, sweet and boy did he get a standing ovation. Man, I wish he were governor 8 years ago and taking questions right now, instead of introducing them all.

Boy — Gravel just kicked ass elaborating on this
ryepower12 says
he went on a crazy rant about getting rid of one of the few kinds of progressive taxes, the income tax, and replacing it with a national sales tax… ie pretty much the least progressive tax ever.
laurel says
too big a topic for here, but there are ways to heavily tax luxuries, little to no tax on necessities, etc.
ryepower12 says
There are lots of frugal wealthy people and lots of spend thrifts in the middle class. I’m not completely opposed to some sales taxes, mainly on luxury goods, but it simply can’t replace the income tax. It would spell disaster to America and especially those most at risk – even if you try to make it a more ‘progressive’ sales tax.
laurel says
its not going to happen. nationally anyways. state-level it’s working, for better or worse, in a few places.
laurel says
edwards talking about troubles young black men face before and after school. what, young black women don’t face these problems? why the gender distinction?
cadmium says
point about facing the fact homophobia has been a barrier to addressing AIDS
laurel says
thank for pointing it out.

I really enjoyed meeting Brian [Subotai] and Jim Caralis – John Walsh was indeed there and the energy of watching and discussing was quite interesting. Of course, I recruited for my candidate of choice [John Edwards] and gave out some buttons. I returned home to find out my aunt died in Michigan, and flew here the next day. Highs and lows.
