Mass Alliance is pleased to announce our endorsement in the 4th Middlesex State Senate race. As a coalition of organizations that works on civil rights, economic justice, reproductive freedom, environmental protection, and workers’ rights, we seek out candidates who are champions for the whole progressive agenda. We look for leaders who share our values and are willing to stand up for them on Beacon Hill.
Jim Marzilli has a clear history of progressive legislation and action as a Representative. We know that he will continue to be a progressive force in the Senate.
In 1999 and again in 2006, Mass Alliance member organizations were at the center of fight to raise the minimum wage-both times making the Massachusetts minimum wage the highest in the country. Jim Marzilli was the sponsor of both bills and a leader in the successful fight to increase security for hundreds of thousands of low-wage workers.
Jim Marzilli has been a long-time advocate for corporate accountability and progressive revenue. He is the sponsor of legislation to close corporate loopholes, by making corporation based in Massachusetts declare their profits and losses regardless of where they occur. This measure would raise hundreds of millions for much needed revenue for the Commonwealth.
He has been a champion for environmental protection, co-authoring the Energy, Climate and Economic Security Act, which is the most comprehensive energy bill in the in the House. This measure would revise utility and transportation policy, provide a Green Building Tax Credit, and remove barriers to municipalities employing green technologies and practices.
We need more progressive champions in the Senate. Please join us in supporting Jim Marzilli for the 4th Middlesex Senate seat.
