The home of congressional candidate Darcy Burner (WA-08) was destroyed early yesterday morning when a faulty lamp in her son’s room sparked a blaze that quickly spread through the house. Darcy and her husband, son, and dog made it out unharmed. Their cat, unfortunately, did not.
While Darcy begins the long process of reassembling her life, it is critical that we not let her fall behind her Republican opponent, incumbent Dave Reichert.
Daily Kos is rallying readers to the cause, attempting to raise $150,000 through the month of July for Darcy. Fortunately, our esteemed editors have already included Ms. Burner on our own BMG Act Blue page.
Darcy lost by 3 points in 2006 and there’s no reason she can’t win it this year. Let’s give her the support she needs so that this personal tragedy doesn’t sink her campaign.

I can’t imagine what a stressful event such a thing must be.

p>That said, it is too bad that the Burners didn’t have the representative from the California 35th over at the time to prevent it from getting so bad.

I looked up the rep from CA-35 and didn’t find anything on her web page to suggest she would have been helpful. Do you just mean the pun on her last name?

You may remember that Bill Frist actually did one useful thing during his term in the Senate, when he dealt with a constituent stricken ill in his office. Too bad the rest of his 12 years was devoted to evil…
