Guess who’s campaign staff won’t allow constituents to meet their elected official?

September 2, 2008 By cambridge_paul

That would be State Sen. Anthony Petrucelli’s campaign staff.

So I’ve drafted a bill regarding education and will be having my State Rep. and Sen. sponsor it come January.  I started scheduling meetings with various officials a couple of months ago.

My representative in the district, Tim Toomey, on the other hand was absolutely fantastic by the way.  He and his staff were very responsive.  Within a couple of weeks we had a meeting scheduled and it went really well.  Kudos.

Before proceeding any further to meet with the correct committee members I wanted to meet with both officials and I still have not met with Mr. Petrucelli.

After a month and a half of rather poor customer service, I was offered the chance to meet with his policy staff, Greg, instead.  I stated that I would be happy to meet with both of them, but I certainly did not want to meet with Greg instead of Mr. Petrucelli.  I have also never met my State Senator so I was/am looking forward to this meeting for even more reasons than simply my bill.

Now, this past week a woman calls me back from the campaign and tells me that I will not be able to meet with Mr. Petrucelli because if he did that with everyone that wanted to he would have no time to do his job.  Why I was strung along if that was indeed the case from the beginning I do not know.  The conversation went sour quickly to say the least and never have I been treated so rudely by any campaign staff.

Well, at least I found out about his open office hours which would’ve sufficed for my needs from the very beginning actually and should be meeting him soon.

Hope you don’t mind….just needed to vent and thought I would share this horrific experience.

So are you allowed to meet your State Senator?  Also, who’s campaign people have you had the worst experience with?

Please share widely!

617-722-1634 number.  And the woman that was extremely rude was not the planner (Donna), but rather I believe her name was Rosa.

You single handedly have solved the education problem? Wow? Was it a credible group the Senator would not meet with or you personally? Or was it just you?

p>You are the definition of a pain in the ass constituent. Sen. Petrocelli has many more repsonsibilities then Rep. Toomey.

    <

    p>Good for Sen Petrocelli.
He needs to spend time with real people with real proplems.

God forbid constituents actually want to meet who represent them!  And even worse, take an active role in government and try to do their part!  Shame on them.

have a right to submit bills as well.  Most people look favorably upon that since people are trying to improve this government and community.

          <

p>Seriously, I can’t even believe you’re trying to argue that.  Then again, I do, since it’s coming from you.  Perhaps if you weren’t such a (fill in the blank) you wouldn’t have your posts taken down and your comments rated zeros.

If you ever want to meet your State Senator get 10-20 of your friends and then maybe he or she will consider it.

Anyone can do it. You on the other hand want to lobby for a piece of legislation yet have not done anything to show that opthers support it.

                  I can see why.

                  <

p>Anyways, if you actually took the time to read my diary I stated that I told his campaign staff that I wanted to meet with him because I’ve never met my representative, in addition to speaking about my bill, and I was flat out told no way by that woman on both counts.  That’s the whole point of this piece, hence the title.

A huge pleasure to join @RepDylan as he launched the #Massachusetts Friends of UK Legislative Caucus at the home of the @FCDOPeterAbbott. It was wonderful to talk about how we can collaborate to benefit constituents and deepen long-standing ties! #mapoli

If you're familiar with #mapoli I have questions for you!

My intern is applying for an internship there - obvs I'm thrilled. 😊 What should she know about how the MA legislature is staffed? What other essential knowledge would you pass along?

It's April in #mapoli which means budget season is in full swing. The House will soon pitch a tax relief proposal alongside their 2024 fiscal plan.
