Imagine if even 1/3 of the money poured down a black hole to bailout financial institutions – who then used so much money overseas, to buy other institutions, to pay bonuses…had been used for affordable housing, section eight, and to employ these folk. Bet THAT would have been an economic plan we could see, and relief for our state’s budget…all these motel rooms cost the budget and have high human costs, too.

If the money that is wasted so carelessly could be directed to something that is truly needed. It would have a positive impact in so many ways, instead of renting hotel rooms they could use the money to renovate old buildings, or even buy up foreclosed properties to create housing for the homeless. And then they could also hold activities for these people to do constructive things like plant flowers or do community service until they can find a job. Doing the community service would help them build up their self esteem and give them a positive outlook on their abilities. They could learn new skills. It would be such a win / win situation. Too bad it will never happen.
There is just too much airless space between the real world and our elected officials.
