Representative Marty Walz Endorses Aaron Michlewitz’s Candidacy

March 30, 2009 By suffolk-democrat

State Representative Marty Walz endorses Aaron Michlewitz’ candidacy

BOSTON-  State Representative candidate Aaron Michlewitz has received the endorsement of Representative Marty Walz (D-Boston).  Representative Walz, who is Chair of the House Committee on Education, represents the neighboring 8th Suffolk District, which includes the Back Bay, Beacon Hill, and the West End in Boston.

“Aaron’s depth of knowledge and record of accomplishment in our communities is unparalleled” said Representative Walz.  “I have worked closely with him for the past four years, and I have the utmost confidence in his ability to serve the residents of the 3rd Suffolk District with integrity and distinction” she said.

Representative Walz recently served as  the Co-Chair of the legislature’s Caucus of Women Legislators and has served in leadership roles with the Neighborhood Association of the Back Bay and the Women’s Lunch Place, a daytime shelter for poor and homeless women. She also serves on the Board of Directors of NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts. She is a longtime member of the Boston Ward 5 Democratic Committee, which she has served as Chair and as Treasurer.

Michlewitz is running in the upcoming Special Democratic Primary to fill the vacancy of former Speaker Salvatore F. DiMasi.  “When it comes to education and the protection of women’s rights, you  won’t find many leaders who are as passionate and dedicated as Representative Walz,” Michlewitz said.  “I have had the privilege of working closely with her on many issues that affect the neighborhoods of the 3rd Suffolk District, and I have learned a great deal from her about what it takes to be an effective and accessible State Representative. I am honored to receive this very meaningful and important endorsement from her.”

A graduate of Northeastern University, Michlewitz worked as DiMasi’s Constituent Services Director for the past four years.   He has served as President of the North End Waterfront Neighborhood Council (NEWNC) and currently serves as a member of The Boston Groundwater Trust.  A  lifelong Democrat, he is a member of the Ward 3 Democratic Committee.

A Special Democratic Primary has been scheduled for Tuesday, May 19, 2009 with a General Election to follow on Tuesday, June 16, 2009.   The Third Suffolk District includes neighborhoods in Bay Village, Beacon Hill, Chinatown, Financial District, Leather District, North End, Roxbury, South End, and the Waterfront.

I came to volunteer for Aaron because of the high respect Aaron has garnered at the State House from his work there. When out collecting signatures for Aaron Micheliwtz, it was overwhelming to find that almost everyone in the neighborhood knew him. He had taught, coached, or served with them or their family members on numerous activities. Aaron is rare candidate that not only understands the State House issues, but also the community concerns and the names and faces attached to those concerns.

Aaron has momentum at this point, with notable strength in the South End as well as his North End base. Walz is a savvy public official who recognizes that Aaron would be the most effective representative from the 3rd Suffolk District. She is co-chair of the Education Committee, which has jurisdiction over a bill Aaron has comitted to push, H 3250, an act relative to bullying prevention.
