The discussion about the aggregation and distribution of content on the web heated up this week when the Associated Press announced plans to “launch an industry initiative” designed “to protect news content” online.

I wonder if this will ever happen. I know this has been discussed here before, it would have a huge impact on everything internet. I will pass by walled news stories because of cost and time. I did figure the sharing of news and content for free was too good to be true, but using their links does draw people to their site which is of great value to them in the long run. I guess it’s not enough, or maybe they are angry because they don’t have a community of people who hang out at their site. Who knows? I’m almost sure that things will be changing though. It been far too convenient, fun and easy to pull news together and discuss it. I hope they give the option to pay for a single item, instead of having to buy a subscription for the month. There are some places I visit infrequently, and others I visit daily.
Maybe linking will end entirely except for those who have a large amount of extra money to spare every week. This should be very interesting. And really, quite a bummer.
