Buried in today’s Globe was the news that the Mihos campaign is struggling for cash and has fired their communication director, Kevin Sowryda. According to Sowryda:
A fund-raising appearance last week by Dick Morris, a national Republican consultant who is advising Mihos, fell flat. Two events with Morris, one on Cape Cod and one in Boston, drew sparse crowds
But that’s not the punchline. This is:
Kevin Sowyrda, who has been Mihos’s spokesman and media director since the summer, said he was told yesterday that he has been terminated. Sowyrda said he has not heard directly from Mihos, but that he had heard he was fired from another consultant to the campaign, whom he would not identify.
Sowyrda said the first hint came when his campaign cellphone shut down yesterday.
“This is classic Christy,” Sowyrda said. “Apparently, he has told people on the campaign that I resigned a month ago and have been working pro bono since then, which of course was news to me. However, we all love Christy dearly for this type of eccentricity, because that’s what makes him the very special person that he is.”
…and says a lot about Mihos. The candidate or the manager can fire a staffer and should do so directly. Consultants are hired guns and have no business firing anybody. Telling people that a staffer has resigned just adds insult to injury, plus I fail to see what a media spokesperson has to do with the success or failure of fundraising events.
I’m still trying to puzzle that one out. Like Jesse Ventura in Minnesota, a Christy governorship is likely to provide hours of entertainment for the media (and on here, for that matter). As a citizen of the Commonwealth, I’d rather be bored.
I’d be terrified. With most Republicans, their incompetence and selfishness is at least predictable. With Mihos, there isn’t even any sense to what he’d do. I can see him abolishing county government on a whim, or forcing it on those that have eliminated it…all depends on his mood that day.

p>With Baker, I know what I’m getting.
Yes, there’s a campaign slogan for troubled times…
If I head into a proctology exam, I know what I’m getting there, too. Come to think of it, I’d be getting pretty much the same thing from Governor Baker…
Indeed, that would be a good Baker slogan…but not really accurate enough…considering that Baker orchestrated Harvard Pilgrim’s return to huge profitability on 3 little words, how about using those as his campaign mantra “You’re Not Covered!”…better fit.
you would know what a perfect dolt he is.
Christopher, I’m guessing that Dick Morris was supposed to be “the draw” at these events. Can anyone from our “differently winged” bloggers confirm?
Both because of who Dick Morris is and because I don’t recall a consultant ever being the headline name for a fundraiser. I usually think of a big-name politician for that role with consultants possibly being more of a keynote speaker for a non-fundraising event.
Is a best-selling author.
Wasn’t he the one who leaked out that Christy would be definitely running for Senate?

p>Seems to me like the campaign might be better off without him!
And you folks are giving him credibility AGAIN? Yes Dick Morris was the intended draw. I’m noticing neither party’s big fund-raisers are drawing capacity crowds. Yes folks, despite the president’s best rhetoric, there is a recession happening.
