Air America is Toast

January 21, 2010 By demolisher

It is with the greatest regret, on behalf of our Board, that we must announce that Air America Media is ceasing its live programming operations as of this afternoon, and that the Company will file soon under Chapter 7 of the Bankruptcy Code to carry out an orderly winding-down of the business.

I guess if anyone actually listens to it, you’d already know?

Here’s another take, which I like:

http://realclearpolitics.blogs…

Which blends in a comparison between MSNBC and Fox News summarized with this quote:

Watching coverage of the Massachusetts senatorial election Tuesday night, I wondered if MSNBC was getting ready to cut off its cable signal to the state. Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow, positively enraged that Massachusetts dared to elect a Republican, delivered two hours of nonstop bilious rage toward the state’s voters, calling them “irrational” and “teabaggers,” engaged in “a total divorce from reality,” and hinting that they’re vicious racists to boot.

If you watched CNN or Fox News last night, you got a balanced analysis of how Republican Scott Brown pulled off the political upset of the century (or, if you prefer, how Democrat Martha Coakley blew a dead solid electoral lock). Yes, I said Fox News, without irony. To be sure, Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity made it clear they were rooting for Brown. But their shows also included a steady parade of liberal-leaning guests — former San Francisco mayor Willie Brown, former Dukakis campaign manager Susan Estrich, Democratic party strategist Mary Anne Marsh, NPR commentator Juan Williams and radio host Alan Colmes. And pollster Frank Luntz interviewed a panel of two dozen or so Massachusetts voters, most of them Democrats, about how they voted and why. Practically every conceivable perspective on the election was represented

Something is not right with the liberal media – too angry, too sarcastic?  Too victimized?

Why is it that dozens of conservative programs can do just fine all over the country but the progressive programs fair so poorly that they can’t even stay in business?

is it style, as I mention above?  Or is it substance?

Maybe, about a century on, America just doesn’t dig “progressive” ideals anymore.

liberal/progressive.      When they got rid of Ron Kuby that was the last genuinely partisan liberal/progressive except for Ron Reagan.   I dont count Rachel since she just rebroadcasts her TV show.   Robert Kenndey Jr is rarely ever on with Papantonio anymore and Papantonio is more of a left leaning libertarian–to the point where he could often drift into radical right sympathies.   Montel Williams is an independant who is usually liberal on issues but is often fiscal right wing reactionary.      Jack Rice is a blowhard who talks about himself more than anything else.  Anna Marie Cox always touts her progressivism and spends most of the program lavishing praise on republicans and her favorite radio host Glenn Beck

1510 AM was not broadcasting any Air America programs as far as I know.  Jeff Santos is local, and the other shows (Stephanie Miller, Ed Schultz, Thom Hartmann) are from other outlets.

Hey, Air America’s all-time most famous personality is now a Senator.

I agree with your analysis of MSNBC. They were so angry about losing that they were simply firing their cannons with no regard for the targets, much like the Democratic party has been doing all week. But Olberman is completely out of control and should be fired. I have been emailing the NBC hierarchy and telling them that their sponsors are my next target. FOX may not care about boycotts because they beat MSNBC 5, 6 or 7 to 1 in ratings but MSNBC is clinging on. It makes sense since they are the TV version of Air America.

I agree that Olberman is way over the top, and offensive, and an idiot – but calling for him to get fired and threatening a boycott?  Just reminds me way too much of what the liberals are always trying to do against the media on the right.  Shut them off by any means possible.

If Air America were indeed “too angry, too sarcastic? Too victimized?”, then it would be right wing radio a la Rush, Hannity, Savage, Howie, et. al.

JohnD rates me a 3, but yet he is the epitome of the “”too angry, too sarcastic, too victimized” right wing white male whiner here at BMG. I guess the truth hurts and JohnD felt the need to lash out by rating my comment a 3.

p>Oh, if only JohnD had the gift of self awareness. Tragic, but in an amusing way. ;p
