As a long time supporter of Joe DeNucci, this liberal often found herself telling her friends and colleagues that this former boxer with the broken nose and syntax was really a deeply caring, highly intelligent man who had transformed the state auditor's office into a fraud fighting machine that never took cheap shots at welfare recipients, immigrants or public employees.
Suzanne Bump will carry on that tradition of class and integrity.
While David Bernstein's piece presents an accurate picture of Guy Glodis' history of crude and rude behavior as a public official, David is wrong about why liberals keeping silent. We don't have to run a negative campaign on Glodis, he's an open book.(Yuk)
We'll just keep saying positive things about Suzzane.

And sorry to come in on this with more negatives about Sheriff Guy.
<
p>I think David B is over analyzing the whole liberal silence thing with Glodis, even though I am really glad to see him write about it. The fact is, most people, even convention delegates, just haven’t given the Auditor’s race enough thought, or any for that matter.
<
p>Its not some strategic decision why liberals are staying silent. He thinks it could be so we can win back the Scott Brown vote. I wish we were nearly so calculating. And hell, if voting Glodis were the magic key to winning us back the disaffected indie vote, which is doubtful, I’d rather Scott Brown keep em.
<
p>If anything the big risk is that very few people pay attention and because Glodis has money and union bodies he wins a rather lacklustre, low turnout primary – which it is likely to be. Let’s recall Tim for Treasurer. Look what that has given us – a wannabe tea bagger who eschewed the party and now runs to the right of the GOP. Glodis is already to the right of many Massachusetts Republicans. Other than the fact he likes public sector unions, he makes Charlie Baker look pretty reasonable.
<
p>But what sucks most about Glodis is I just don’t think he can do the job well. He’s a populist bomb thrower – not exactly the type of guy you want keeping the books.
<
p>Bump would be a great choice for the job. Let’s do all we can to get her there. And I hope her people hand out the Bernstein piece to every delegate they can. Sometimes the truth is negative. That doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be exposed.

I don’t think anyone’s “biting there tongue”. But, we do need to up the attention and focus on this race to keep him from becoming our Rand Paul.

Bernstein was obviously talking to someone, given his multiple mentions of “party veterans” in that piece. I guess some people are swallowing their disgust about this guy, though it doesn’t seem to be any of us!
<
p>So – all you party veterans out there who are holding your tongues??? Whomever was interviewed for the story? STOP PLAYING GAMES. Don’t vote for Sheriff Glodis just because you think he’s your best shot at winning (remember a charming lady named Martha Coakley, people? Frontrunners don’t always win.)
<
p>If the MA Dem Party is no better than the bunch of spineless wimps this article makes us out to be, people more concerned with winning than principles, we deserve to lose. And after the revelations about this guy in recent days I know we can do better – so let’s make it happen!
<
p>(I just reread that and it sounds like a cheesy sports pep talk . . . please forgive, I’m trying to pull the Celtics back from the half-time brink. GO CELTS!)

No one has been biting their tongues here about “magic pork bullets” Glodis. The guy is running a distant third behind Bump and Connaughton in my book.

My problem with voting for Glodis is not so much that he’s a boorish, corrupt, conservative hack, by all accounts, so much that he has, from what I can see, absolutely no qualifications for this job.
<
p>I’ve known Suzanne for many years, and know her to be a talented, bright, and principled woman. The Auditor’s job is a very logical next stop on her career path. And, I have absolutely no question about her progressive credentials.
<
p>I will be working to get her elected.

from an undecided voter (at least for this seat).
<
p>1) I think that if Glodis wins the primary (IMO our silence will lead to this), then whoever the republican is, will hammer him with negative attacks. He will not be able to defend his past, and he will loose the final election.
<
p>2) If we don’t want that to happen (though undecided, I definitely don’t want a republican auditor) then we need to work to promote one of the other candidates.
<
p>Bump seems like a stronger candidate than Lake, but thats only from a glance.
<
p>Regardless of why “liberals” are keeping silent, we need to start speaking up and acting out. The point is not why we are silent, but if we will stop being silent. This is a down ballot race. No one even knows what the Auditor does, and if your under the age of 50, then you have likely never had much choice of who to vote for for the position.
<
p>Pick your candidate and work for them. I hope thats what people take away from this piece.
<
p>Now tell me who I should vote for? đŸ™‚

Why would you NOT want a Republican auditor, especially in a state so top heavy with one party?
<
p>Has having a Democrat as auditor helped expose waste and fraud?

First, he’s hub-o-centric;the unions are mostly Boston-oriented.
Second, he takes a handful of (mostly) union locals and fictionalizes a union consensus.
Third, he assumes unions are liberal. (Boston police union, anyone)?
<
p>Here’s Glodis’s union support:
<
p>Bernstein does some good work. He should be embarassed of this off-the-cuff shot at “liberals.”
