So far, none of the unemployed folks I know who had stopped getting unemployment are getting it again.
You cannot get through on the phone to workforce devcelopment, even at 7:00 AM the line says it is backlogged for the day.
No one has gotten anything in the mail – no one I know, anyway.
And the 99ers have their own problems and are forming more than one organization – a 99er is a laid of American who exhausted even the 99 weeks and still cannot find work…some have applied in droves for early social security to avoid destitution. This is a serious and substantial problem.
I will say it again – where is the WPA and CCC when we need them? It is jobs that will get the eocnomy going, and NOT jobs sent to Malaysia or Burundi or China and not the fools gold of gambling, either…just look at New Jersey where even lawmakers are feuding and the possibility of a State takevoer remains real.

But don’t hold your breath on a WPA/CCC type of program with the power of Unions fighting it. Those are “their” jobs and unless you denigrate those jobs to “picking up paper trash” along the highway they will fight it. Not to mention with prevailing wage laws we would end up being forced to pay these workers extremely high wages (I assume you mean giving people a job where they work hard and get a paycheck allowing millions of unemployed people to work…).

p>Not only would people be working but it may provide new careers for people and let some stars rise who are true leaders. Of course, I would hope it would also be a program where “schleps” are not allowed to lean on shovels all day and get canned (but I have little faith in government programs being managed that way)
<
p>No clue as to why the new unemployment checks aren’t going out (typically the government runs like a well oiled machine… NOT!).

I do not know if anyone has received a check yet. However, I must admit that I have not asked anyone in the last couple of days, but will do so the next time I see or talk with them.
<
p>I also found a couple of stories about USAID working with entities in Sri Lanka and Armenia to help them build their outsourcing and offshoring industries and to take advantage of their lower labor costs. These industries will target jobs in America potentially further impacting those Americans without jobs sufficient to support their family.

p>It is long past time to focus on putting Americans to work in America and not have other parts of the Administration working at cross-purposes to that goal.

<
p>The dustbin of history.
<
p>Realistically, assume a program passed where the government paid (quoting FDR’s description of CCC) “…meals, housing, uniforms, and small wages.” How many people would actually sign up for a “measley” $10 per hour? Why I have trouble getting decent working kids to do lawn work for minimum wage!
<
p>Second, how many unemployed people are actually able to do meaningful labor?
<
p>Third, the Unions loudly opposed the CCC. Why would today differ?
