Survey: Mass #1 in Small Business Employment Growth

December 12, 2010 By mannygoldstein

According to the Intuit Small Business Employment Index, Mass had a 0.7% growth in small business employment in November:

Not a perfect survey – they only measured states in which more than 1,000 small businesses use their product.  But a great confirmation that encouraging good, decent-paying jobs is, in the end, the best strategy for growth.

Small business hourly employees worked an average of 105.9 hours in November, translating to a 24.4-hour work week. Hours worked remained flat for November following a sharp rise in hours worked in October.

      the very next paragraph:

      <

      p>

“It’s good to see that hours worked are still high despite a relatively strong rise in employment,” added Woodward. “This means that small businesses are busy. Even though they are hiring more people, they haven’t reduced the hours of their hourly employees.”

      <

p>Come on, Baker got his butt kicked, no need to slam small businesses in MA when they are growing fast than anywhere else in the country.

p>Prior to the November election, MA’s success was based on who was Governor… MTA believe it is our educational system… MA Chamber of Commerce say it’s our beaches and shoreline… Bostonians attribute it to the drinking water from Quabbin… I like to think it was John O’Brien’s hiring frenzy at the Probation Department (John, the check was cashed so where’s my Sr Director position?) … so I guess your deduction (wild ass guess with an ideological twist) is as good as anything else.

      Manufacturing Growth Expected in 2011
      Revenue to Increase 5.6%
      Capital Expenditures to Increase 14.5%
      Capacity Utilization Currently at 80.2%

p>but if the Bush taxes expire ?

      <

      p>or the 1099 requirement isn’t squashed ?

A huge pleasure to join @RepDylan as he launched the #Massachusetts Friends of UK Legislative Caucus at the home of the @FCDOPeterAbbott. It was wonderful to talk about how we can collaborate to benefit constituents and deepen long-standing ties! #mapoli

If you're familiar with #mapoli I have questions for you!

My intern is applying for an internship there - obvs I'm thrilled. 😊 What should she know about how the MA legislature is staffed? What other essential knowledge would you pass along?

It's April in #mapoli which means budget season is in full swing. The House will soon pitch a tax relief proposal alongside their 2024 fiscal plan.
