Scott the Fishermen: Did Brown’s Ad Pay Off?

November 8, 2012 By thegreenmiles

Fogged In Redux: Pseudo HDROne of the ads I saw most this summer in New Bedford was Scott Brown’s ad claiming to be a champion of fishermen. It was classic Scott Brown – clubbing you over the head with his one-of-youness, male model masculinity & love of the local sporting teams. A New Bedford fishermen told me the ad drove him crazy – Brown was happy to stand with fishermen to film a political ad, but in reality rarely showed his face on the docks.

I was curious to see if Brown’s ad helped him in two key fishing cities – New Bedford & Gloucester:

New Bedford

Obama 75%, Romney 22%
Warren 69%, Brown 29%

Gloucester

Obama 62.5%, Romney 35.5%
Warren 52%, Brown 48%

Brown’s pander couldn’t keep him from losing Gloucester and getting trounced in New Bedford. Few Obama supporters to split their ticket.

Maybe the next time Scott Brown wants to get votes in fishing communities, town hall meetings would help more than posing for pictures on a boat while ducking debates.
