Obama just nominated three for federal judgeships in Massachusetts.
One of them is Juliette Kayyem’s husband, David Barron, a Harvard Law School professor (HLS friends say that he is incredible). He would replace Judge Boudin on the First Circuit.
That seems to be a problem for her campaign, as a confirmation inquiry could happen at the same time as the Governor’s race heats up. There would be a lot for the Repubs to seize on.
Also, shame on the Globe for not catching that connection before publishing, especially since Kayyem was a Globe columnist.

Why would it hurt? Republicans will seize on what?

Everything Kayyem says and impute it to her husband to paint him as too liberal.

Therefore according to GOP logic he is inherently too liberal without his wife’s help. On Facebook she says that she will refer all questions about her husband to the White House out of respect for the process.

I think it helps. Lots of free press. Lots of ‘powerhouse couple’ photos.
Any GOP senators who want to try to use a judicial nominee’s wife’s words against her husband? Wow, shame on them in a big way. You are just handing a potential Democratic rival material. I mean we’re not talking about her being a member of a separatist movement. We’re talking about a high-level public safety expert on the campaign trail. A big-time “bring it on” moment.
