The Lexington Minuteman (a.k.a. Minutiaman) is published on Thursdays. They have a longstanding tradition of not publishing letters to the editor about candidates on the Thursday immediately before an election, supposedly because there is no time for rebuttal. Last Thursday, Oct. 3, every letter endorsed Brownsberger. The previous Thursday there was a mix. Although they published no letters today, there was a “Vote for Brownsberger” sticker on the front of the paper.
Indeed there is no opportunity to question either the content of last week’s letters or the seeming violation of the paper’s intent to avoid the topic on election eve. Yes, I know a sticker is different from a letter. And I did not see an overt editorial endorsement of any candidate in this week’s rag. But the whole scenario bothers me.
