We’re not finished yet. Thank you to all the great BMGers who helped push our campaign over the finish line in the Democratic primary to replace Congresswoman Clark in the State Senate!
This was an unusual election, in the cold, and the latest in a series of special elections. I’m grateful that so many of you made a special effort to vote and made sure your family and friends participated.
Thank you to the many dedicated volunteers who knocked on doors, especially all the supporters here on BMG, who made countless phone calls, stuffed envelopes, and held signs over the past few months. There is no doubt that our success during the primary was the result of an incredible team effort.
I want to again congratulate Rep. Chris Fallon and Anthony Guardia, and their supporters, on a hard fought campaign. I know that they are both deeply committed to public service and will continue to contribute to the well being of the communities of the 5th Middlesex district in many different ways.
If I have the privilege of being elected to the State Senate on April 1st, I will continue to focus on bringing effective leadership to the district on key issues: local economic development projects that enhance the quality of life in our communities; education funding reform to ensure adequate and equitable funding for all of our schools; containing healthcare costs to make quality care more affordable for our families, seniors and small businesses; and government reforms that continue to make our state government more efficient, accountable, and responsive to our needs and concerns.
But this is not over. We have a conservative Republican opponent who does not share our progressive values. My campaign and I take no voter for granted and are working hard to earn every vote on every ballot on April 1st.
We have the right team. I am so honored to say Congresswoman Clark has endorsed me in this race.
I have also been endorsed by Mass Alliance, Progressive Massachusetts, 1199 SEIU, Massachusetts Teachers Association, Planned Parenthood, and so many more local leaders and organizations committed to our communities. And most of all, we have grassroots Democratic activists from all across the district who will help us get out the vote.
We need you to get involved because this is no slam dunk. This district was represented by Richard Tisei for 20 years and many towns in the district voted for Scott Brown and Charlie Baker. I invite you to learn more at www.ElectJasonLewis.com. We will continue to run a strong, grassroots campaign. I hope you’ll join and get involved in our campaign.

I’m going to help out on election day, and will see if I can squeeze in another day before hand to canvass!
And I will send another campaign donation; it will make a big difference to have another strong progressive in the Senate!

It was a competitive primary, and I was a Guardia supporter, but I am glad that we are all uniting behind Jason Lewis to end this race with a progressive in the State Senate.
I’ve posted elsewhere, but Monica Meideros is a self described “tea party conservative”, who is committed to gutting the MWRA with a Prop 2 1/2 style funding mechanism, who will fight the meaningful local aid reform that has been a centerpiece of the Lewis campaign, and who is a question mark on social issues while Jason has been a leader on equality for gays and women alike, along with being a strong leader for better gun control. She has also promised to double dip and stay on as an Alderman while Jason Lewis will be a full time State Senator exclusively. Time to keep up the progress and send Gov. Patrick and the next progressive Governor a strong ally in the State Senate!

The volunteer base in this district has been working its behind off in special elections for what feels like forever, basically ever since John Kerry resigned, so if you or anyone you know has some time between now and April 1, but especially on April 1, come on up to 5th Middlesex because we would more than welcome the assist and the good company! 🙂
Monica Meideros, our GOP opponent, was the top vote getter in Melrose for Board of Alderman the last go round. As one activist in Melrose told me, there are a lot of voters in Melrose who voted for Jason on March 4 but who also unwittingly voted for her for Alderman, not knowing that she’s anti-choice, anti-LGBT rights, is in favor of budget busting toxins like Prop 2 1/2 as jconway pointed out which would further hamstring our efforts to rebuild our education and transportation infrastructure in this state and would further erode local aid, and on and on. She’s won before by running “stealth” so there’s no reason she couldn’t do it again.
While 5th Middlesex has become a bit more liberal over the past few years, as others have pointed out it was represented by a Republican until very recently. In addition the #2 vote getter in the Democratic primary, State Rep Chris Fallon, has not voiced support for Jason, unlike Anthony Guardia, so there’s no telling how Fallon’s supporters will vote on April 1.
We cannot be complacent and think we have this in the bag. We have to redouble our efforts to make sure we get our folks to the polls in big numbers on April 1. And we need resources to reach all of them in time.

Does anyone remember the election when Ed King beat Mike Dukakis? Low voter turnout, high apathy.
MA Dems across the state should offer assistance to repudiate the State Republican Committee platform. The is the first election since it was adopted.

Against that platform and is definitely not taking this race for granted. Hit the ground running!
