Did any of you BMGers catch Marisa deFranco’s appearance on Greta VanSusteren last night?
She was quite eloquent about the sexism of the DCCC and the MA Dems.
Personally, I think the Party just wants to prop up Tierney as a sure thing rather than waging a ‘War on Women’ as she claims, but it is interesting that the other male candidates were included in their polling when she was not.
She refused to rule out a run as an independent, and I wondered if there was any feasibility to that.
Please share widely!

I didn’t see it, but now I’m curious too.
Apparently DeFranco really bombed at the 2012 convention, and that hurts her in a primary (certainly in a primary against an incumbent).
I also think there’s some resistance to first-time officeholders at the federal level. What’s wrong with State Senate?

Greta VanSusteren is a good host, and I enjoy the lack of bombast in her presentation and questioning, so I happened to see the live interview.

In addition to the ‘WoW’ meme, she also claimed the party was out to scuttle her because she refused to support the ACA (although IIRC she actually wants single payer). THAT seems more probable than sexism to me, but she came across as somewhat libertarian.

I want to like DeFranco, because she seems to have spirit, but her message needs work.

(Full disclosure – I really personally like Richard Tisei)
There is no GOP primary, and I can really see some of these remarks appealing to my TEA Party friends, most of whom are unenrolled and who may not be as acquainted with her full spectrum of ideas. And, of course, they are far more likely to see an interview like this than a Dem stalwart who is being urged to prop Tierney up on primary day, but who may not feel much enthusiasm. Unenrolled are often under-polled, so there may be a surprise on primary day.

Answer to Jimc question: “I also think there’s some resistance to first-time officeholders at the federal level. What’s wrong with State Senate?”
JimC: ask Deval Patrick and Elizabeth Warren.

Moulton is on the move. He’s gotten some press this week (WBUR … so he got air).

She does tend to play victim a lot. I don’t know why she wasn’t included in the DCCC poll and I think she should have been as I suspect she will ultimately do better than Moulton. I’d be interested in her evidence for sexism at the state party level, since she obviously can’t use that as an excuse for her convention trouncing by Elizabeth Warren. We also have two women members of the US House delegation and several legislators, including the Senate President who are women. Statewide we have a woman as Auditor and once had a woman Treasurer who was our gubernatorial nominee. Within the party itself we bend over backwards to ensure gender equity. District and add-on seats are all balanced, plus we have a number of “gender-balance” seats just for women to make up for the fact that most of those who have ex officio seats due to an elected position are men. Convention delegate spots are also balanced as closely as possible, allowing for a difference of one if there is an odd-numbered allocation within a given community.
Christopher says
…she risks splitting the vote and giving Tisei a better shot than he already has. At that point I dare say forgiveness from withing the party will be hard to come by.

How can she possibly accuse the DCCC of waging a war on women? Remember, the DCCC is run by Nancy Pelosi.
sabutai says
It is run by Steve Israel. Remember, this is the Congressional Campaign Committee for the HoR. That said, the chair last election was Wasserman-Schultz.
It’s been sad to see Defranco’s devolution from promising candidate to bitter also-ran. Perhaps it was sexist that Elizabeth Warren beat atrocious speaker Defranco at the convention. And yes, she bombed at the convention.
bluewatch says
The DCCC is run by Nancy Pelosi, and the DSCC is run by Harry Reid. The Democratic party leader always runs the House (or Senate) political fundraising operation. There is always a committee chair, like Steve Israel, but, the DCCC is really run by Nancy Pelosi. The DCCC (and the DSCC) provide a significant amount of money to candidates, which is why the Democratic leader controls the respective operation.

much, and Fox not at all, but Marisa DeFranco suffers from a serious issue with self-importance. She doesn’t get the support she thinks she deserves so it certainly must be some unfairness in the system.
I didn’t even know she was running against Tierney, but I’m not following the race at all since I don’t live out there.
