Boston, MA— The Massachusetts Senior Care Association (Mass. Senior Care), the state’s largest long term care provider association, convened hundreds of supporters at the Statehouse yesterday to advocate funding for quality nursing care and increased wages for workers at nursing facilities throughout the Commonwealth.
As part of Advocacy Day, supporters met with legislators and other stakeholders to discuss the essential services nursing facilities provide to individuals who can no longer live safely in the community, as well as the need for adequate funding for those services. Long term health care providers are the second largest healthcare employers in Massachusetts. Nursing facilities are also the largest source of referrals to home and community-based services in the state.
As part of the event, Mass. Senior Care presented House Speaker Robert A. DeLeo (D-Winthrop) with the “Legislator of the Year Award” for his leadership and advocacy on behalf of seniors and disabled individuals living in nursing facilities across Massachusetts.
“We are extremely pleased to be honoring Speaker DeLeo today with this award,” said Ned Morse, President of Mass. Senior Care. “The Speaker has been a tireless advocate for seniors and disabled individuals and a champion of our cause for many years. Today is just one way we commemorate all that he has done and continues to do for individuals who live and work in our nursing facilities.”
