Obama’s address today at American University is one of the most important addresses of his presidency, and perhaps more importantly is an indispensable explanation of why the Iran deal must be put into effect to preserve our national security.
In addition to all of the technical details and policy reasons to support the deal, President Obama also makes the most full-throated takedown of the neocons of his presidency. Those on this list do not want to miss this address!

52 years ago today President Kennedy spoke at American University about the imminent threat of nuclear war with the only other nuclear power at the time — the Soviet Union — which had enough nuclear weapons to launch an attack on all the major cities on the east coast of the United States. Mutual annihilation was the Sword of Damacles unless peaceful co-existence could be found.
Kennedy’s call for diplomacy led to the passage of the 1963 Nuclear Test Ban Treaty which de-escalated the Cold War.
In similar fashion President Obama today made the case—again—that the only alternative to the Iran deal is eventual war in the Middle East where the only nuclear power is Israel which has between 300-400 nuclear bombs. Iran has zero bombs and can never have any bombs.
Opponents to the deal have not offered any rational alternative therefore it should be supported as the only sane pathway to any chance of eventual peace in the region.

…which will be interesting to see whether that sinks the deal or sinks his quest to become the next Democratic Leader. I prefer the latter. Do we think he’s concerned about NY’s Jewish vote because I wouldn’t assume that American Jews are necessarily an Israel, right or wrong, crowd?
