President Trump has promoted the use of hydroxychloroquine to combat COVID-19. It’s dangerous and recent evidence shows that it is unlikely to work. A confused elder took chloroquine phosphate, mistakenly thinking he was protecting himself, and died. Now Trump has suggested that maybe household disinfectants could be injected to stop the virus. Yes, he really did. He said he thought the idea was “interesting.” Some everyday people also think it’s interesting, now that he has suggested it. They have been calling the Maryland Emergency Management Agency to inquire about disinfectant use. A few weeks ago Trump suggested that the virus might go away in summertime do to warmer weather and humidity. Thousands of people are dying in warm weather climates around the globe. Yet, Trump is now building on his own hypothesis by suggesting the virus might be stopped by intense light or ultraviolet light, inside or outside the body. It all sounds “crazy” to me. It suggests that the President’s mental capacity is such that he is “unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.” It has been contemplated before. Under the 25th amendment to the Constitution the Vice President and a majority of the Cabinet may remove the President if he is deemed mentally unfit. He is certainly promoting dangerous ideas that lead to unnecessary deaths. It seems to me that this is strong evidence that he is mentally unfit. I’m hoping Vice President Pence and cabinet members have begun to have some quite conversations about the President’s endangerment of everyday people. They may finally have a strong enough case to act.
Is it time for cabinet to remove Trump?

Problem is if Trump objects it takes 2/3 of both Congressional chambers to sustain, a higher threshold than for impeachment and removal.

Yes, you are correct. It’s not that I really think Pence and 13 Cabinet members are remotely likely to remove Trump. It just seems to me that given Trumps recent behavior the question might reasonably be raised as to his mental competence.. Just to play it out, if Pence and a majority of the Cabinet did act to remove Trump, it’s possible that many congressional Republicans would support the move. As a practical matter, many might be more comfortable with Pence.

I’ve been wondering about this ever since the impeachment effort began.
I can even understand why GOP incumbents wait until after the primary filing dates in their state before making any effort cross Mr. Trump. That was yesterday for Florida. Others still remain (the latest date is mid-July).
Once that date passes, it seems to me that it’s much less likely for any GOP incumbent to be primaried. Sticker campaigns very rarely succeed.
Even Mr. Trump and the Trumpists are unlikely to work to flip a Senate seat from red to blue. Mr. Pence would be a MUCH more formidable nominee than Mr. Trump. Frankly, I still expect the GOP to turn on him between now and November.
That speculation leaves out the “Russia question”. There is reasonable evidence that dirty Russian money has been flowing into GOP coffers for quite some time now. I wonder what strings come along with that money. I wonder what Kompromat Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin hold on GOP leaders like Mr. McConnell and Mr. Graham.
Donald Trump literally killing Americans. The fact that he remains in power is an indictment of our failed political system.

“When I was 10, a close friend of my parents decided to commit suicide. He chose to drink a bottle of Lysol. As long as I live , Ill never forget the torture he endured by opting for that exit. Trump is an idiot, a monster, or both. He’s not fit to disinfect a White House toilet.” Laurence Tribe

It’s clearer now than ever that James Buchanan and Warren Harding no longer need to worry about vying for the honor of being the worst President in our history.
