To put them in perspective, I think of being on an airplane. The flight attendant comes down the aisle with her food cart and, eventually, parks it beside my seat. “Can I interest you in the chicken?” she asks. “Or would you prefer the platter of shit with bits of broken glass in it?”
To be undecided in this election is to pause for a moment and then ask how the chicken is cooked. David Sedaris

That’s not the point, though.
To stick with your metaphor, what if the chicken was left in the sun for two days before being cooked, and is obviously no longer suitable for consumption?
The fact that one choice is terrible does not imply that the other is acceptable.

So, Tom. Who are YOU voting for president?
SomervilleTom says
I’ve already said that I’ll vote for Joe Biden if he’s the nominee.
fredrichlariccia says
You forgot to ask if the chicken was organic or free range.
SomervilleTom says
You’ve apparently never eaten spoiled chicken.

This is the exact same question asked in 2016 when 62.9 million Americans eagerly opted for the platter of shit with bits of broken glass. Now, in 2020, –as has been pointed out– their joy is complete because, having eaten platter after platter, the rest of us are forced to smell their breath on a regular basis.
Deplorable is as deplorable does.
You may say that the shit is now so much shittier and the more numerous bits of broken glass even tipped with viral toxins, and so how could anybody vote for Donald Trump after all this? Well, if they take even the least cue from their own elected representatives, almost each and every one of whom have rushed, heedlessly, to cover themselves with shame in feckless obeisance for Donald Trump, then one asks, how could they not vote for Donald Trump? It’s a vicious circle: the elected reps debased in fear of the Republican electorate and the Republican electorate affirmed in the righteousness of their own debasement by the debasement of the elected reps. Even those Republicans who voted for Mitt Romney in 2012 have turned on him because he turned on Trump.
Even if there were a vaccine for this kind of suicide, they wouldn’t take it.
