Geoff Diehl running for the GOP nomination to the right of Charlie Baker. While I think Baker is a strong candidate for re-election, I think he is a weak candidate for re-nomination, precisely because his brand of Never Trump moderation turns off the party faithful who always put Trump First. This move could put pressure on Baker to announce his attentions earlier than he planned.

Maybe we should ask Ludlow Rep. Thomas Petrolati, Dracut Rep. Colleen Garry, Clinton Rep. Hank Naughton, Lowell Rep. David Nangle and Dartmouth Rep. Christopher Markey if they will support Diehl?
Pablo says
I don’t think David Nangle is going to be in a position to influence the election after pleading guilty to 24 federal felony counts.

This is MA and Baker is an incumbent. I still think if he runs re-nomination is his for the asking.

He had a less than stellar win over absolute wacko Scott Lively in 2018. That being said, I think most Republicans ultimately realize that Baker is their best shot at retaining political power and would renominate him. He might have to actually campaign against Diehl and maybe shift his positions to the right a smidgen. (He completely ignored Lively.)

Diehl will have money, non-stop positive coverage from WRKO and the Herald, and tacit support from the state party chairman and committee members. He will be far more formidable against Baker than Lively. He would likely beat Polito if Baker chooses not to run.
Pablo says
If all the Republican-leaning unenrolled voters are drawn into a Baker-Diehl primary, this would be a great year to run primaries against the DINOs.

Good point, although that could hurt our own sides ability to nominate a Democrat capable of winning statewide. My heart is with Sonia, but my mind is waiting on Healey or another more moderate candidate to enter the field.
