“No election will fix this anytime soon” – the US rhymes with Yugoslavia

September 30, 2020 By Charley on the MTA 3 Comments

The breakup of the former Yugoslavia was the first time I witnessed -- at a distance -- a society devolving into chaotic, genocidal violence. I remember the report of Srebenica, that awful helplessness that even as we had vowed "never … [Read more...]

Book cover: The 5th Amendment Today

Editor's note: I wrote this rather long piece more than a year and a half ago, when the Ruth Bader Ginsburg biopic On the Basis of Sex came out. I didn't finish the post to my satisfaction, and I let it lie. Ginsburg's passing prompts me to … [Read more...]

PRIMARY NIGHT 2020 – OPEN THREAD

September 1, 2020 By Charley on the MTA 3 Comments

Obviously we've got a top billing donnybrook for the ages in Kennedy/Markey, but also *three* epochal fights in MA-1 (Morse/Neal), MA-8 (Goldstein/Lynch), a Battle Royale in MA-4 (watch out for folding chairs in the ring); and a ton of … [Read more...]

Hey #mapoli please tell me come 2022 we are going to remember how Charlie Baker mismanaged the COVID vaccine rollout, vetoed the consensus police reform bill, vetoed abortion access, vetoed the consensus climate bill, didn’t fund the SOA, and slashed transit. Please.

Focus on the record - "small minded and shortsighted" justification for transit cuts that make it tougher to reduce emissions, harm those in need and hold back our recovery #mapoli https://twitter.com/cdempc/status/1353002390560141318?s=20
