December 1, 2021 By Ryan 4 Comments

Pay people to dig up dirt, then fill it in, only to dig it all up again and start over. This is how many conservative economists described communism, because a planned economy couldn't be nimble enough to ensure every worker had … [Read more...]

May 26, 2021 By Ryan 3 Comments

An update on my last post --  on the raw deal with the MBTA's Chinese Communist Party spy trains. I suggested we should take experts raising concerns about how China could use infrastructure against us very seriously, such as with the … [Read more...]

The Problem with the MBTA’s New Rail Cars (A Hint: It’s China)

May 19, 2021 By Ryan 13 Comments

Joan Vennochi has a good column out on how the MBTA's $1 billion rail car contract with CRRC -- owned by the Chinese government -- has failed to deliver for Massachusetts. As she notes, China's state-owned business 'blew away' the … [Read more...]

Transformative Change and the Revolution

November 16, 2019 By Ryan 26 Comments

In the 2016 primary, I voted for Bernie Sanders. His calls for transformative change and revolution appealed to me. It is a decision I... somewhat regret. Consider that a confession right up front: I've got buyer's remorse. A few … [Read more...]

What’s Going on in the Primary? Some Tea Leaves.

November 14, 2019 By Ryan 74 Comments

Warren's ascendancy, and the donor class freakout over her, have been the two biggest stories of the POTUS Democratic primary campaign thus far. Governor Patrick's entry into this fray today has caught quite the buzz -- more than I … [Read more...]

Dear Beacon Hill,

July 2, 2013 By Ryan 16 Comments

I hear that there are some issues with the transportation bill. Power games going on behind the scenes? Politicians scared of raising revenue or unhappy with the Governor? I really don't care. It doesn't matter. I'm going to make … [Read more...]

I am Batman!

June 18, 2013 By Ryan 4 Comments

Now that the NSA has come out and magically decided it's prevented 50 domestic terrorist attacks in the past 7 years, I've been inspired to come out and tell the truth, too.... I. Am. Batman. I mean, there's a reason why crime is down … [Read more...]

Legislative Misconceptions on Transportation

April 4, 2013 By Ryan 32 Comments

I just came across John Walsh's diary, "Political Risk," from last month and it's really resonating with me right now. A lot of decisions are being made by the legislature and not all of them seem to be driven by the data. John Walsh … [Read more...]

Ladies and Gentlemen, we really do have a primary

January 29, 2013 By Ryan 3 Comments

Lynch is announcing on Thursday. A lot of people scoff at the idea of Lynch, because he's fairly conservative for Massachusetts, and very much so for Mass Democrats. However, if you're a Markey supporter, underestimate him at your … [Read more...]

This story of obfuscation & political interference points to the failure of #mapoli’s approach to MBTA governance. The T should not be governed by the Executive branch; a different more inclusive approach is needed to restore quality & confidence. https://www.bostonglobe.com/2022/07/06/metro/three-t-derailments-three-days-lots-questions-curious-delay/

My goodness, Boston Globe. It was a tool cart. You even called it a "relatively unserious mishap" but then gave it the Watergate tick-tock treatment. and wrote "Three Derailments in Three Day" and put it on the front page.

It was a tool cart. #mapoli

Dozen's of senior cabinet members resigned yesterday. PM Boris Johnson lost the confidence of his own team.

The threat of DOJ doing the same thing made Trump re-think his plan to overturn the election #mapoli #nhpolitics
