Local bigot Jay Severin was asked to introduce Romney at a fund raiser on 3 December by the state Republican Committee. The Governor did not bat an eye. Severin, a local radio talk show host, has said of U.S. citizens who are muslim that "we should kill them;" said Al Gore "would murder his daughter" to become president; labeled Hillary Clinton "a lying bitch"; and has stated that mere impeachment wasn’t enough for Bill Clinton, whom he labeled "a traitor." He once said that Michael Dukakis should be "executed." Ridiculing Arabs as "towelheads" is one favored trope, labeling illegal immigrants "wetbacks" another, Scott Lehigh reports in the Boston Globe. Tim O’Brien, executive director of the Republican State Committee, said Romney supported the decision to have Severin introduce him: "Although the governor may not agree with Jay Severin on everything, he does defend his right as a member of the press to say what he thinks," he said, according to Lehigh.
