All of the Democrats on the Judiciary Committee voted no on Gonzales for AG today. They lost the 10-8 vote, of course, but they are on the record now, which unfortunately is all we can expect. Below is my letter to our senior Senator.
Dear Senator Kennedy:
I am very proud that you voted against bringing the nomination of Alberto Gonzales to the full Senate. The architect of this administration’s torture policies does not deserve a promotion to the highest law enforcement position in the land.
I hope that you will continue to press your colleagues to vote against him when his nomination is before the entire Senate. It may only be a symbolic gesture, but the Democrats need to express that torture is absolutely beyond any standards of decency, and that they will have no part of it. History will judge them well for doing so.
