Here’s an article from Washington Monthly with a slate of non-conventional candidates the Democrats could try to draft for ’08: Bill Cosby? Tom Brokaw? Tom Hanks? etc. (Thanks to Political Animal for the steer — hah.)
[Hey, this bolding stuff is fun. Makes it feel like a real gossip column!!]
Well, why the hell not? As Tom Lehrer sang back in 1965, "Hollywood’s often tried to mix/Show business with politics/from Helen Gahagan/To Ronald Reagan…"
Well, what about some out-of-the-blue choices for Guvnah in ’06? I mean, we’re really getting short on time here… Alan Dershowitz? Bill Belichick? Click and/or Clack? Ben Affleck? [cue groaning]
…Theo Epstein? Come on, Theo, you’ve already accomplished your life’s work in baseball; it’s only downhill from here. Give us a hand against the other Evil Empire.
UPDATE: Joe Kennedy is out. Here‘s a discussion at Kos about that.

“Give us a hand against the other Evil Empire.” I love it! It would be a great campaign slogan. Epstein: good looking, young, extremely accomplished. If you can give the Sox a WS after 86 years, you sure as hell can be governor in my book.

Theo and Belichick are out. I don’t think fans would want them to leave their posts at the height of their respective sucessess. However, all John Henry has to do sign checks, which he can still do from the corner office.
