Well, will wonders never cease? David Brooks, the NY Times’s "sensible" conservative, has discovered that, in America, "the family you were born into matters more and more to how you will fare in life." He even suggests that this might be "a problem because we are not supposed to have a hereditary class structure in this country."
Gosh, Dave, and what might the source of this "problem" be? Do you think it might have something to do with … tax cuts for the rich? How about, for instance, Bush’s repeal of the estate tax, designed to cement into place the "hereditary class structure" you supposedly deplore? How can you possibly write a column like this and not even mention Republican economic policies that have been shown a zillion times over to be contributing to inequality in this country?
The Poor Man has posted a somewhat more profane take on Brooks’s column here.
