A new poll by the State House News Service shows that, if the election for Governor were held today, Tom Reilly would trounce Mitt Romney, 49.1% to 39.6%. There’s lots more bad news for His Excellency in the poll: 56.3% of the poll’s respondents believe that it should be legal to clone embryos for stem cell research, while only 38.1% say it should be illegal. Less than half of the poll’s respondents said they were "very" or "somewhat" confident that Romney’s big jobs bill will do any good. And Romney’s unfavorable rating exceeds 40%.
Another interesting result in the poll concerns a hypothetical primary battle between John Kerry and Hillary Clinton for the 2008 Democratic nomination for President. Clinton wins the matchup easily, 51% to 33%. Food for thought over at Kerry headquarters.
The poll, which surveyed 404 Massachusetts residents on Monday and Tuesday, has a margin of error of +/- 4.8%.
