A new poll of 404 state residents by the State House News Service finds that Willard’s recent embrace of the hard religious right has not gone down well in the Bay State. A majority of those surveyed, 56.3 percent to 38.1 percent, disagreed with The Man Who Would Be President’s proposal to criminalize stem cell research, according to the service. His unfavorable rating is now above 40 percent. Other findings:
- Romneylost a hypothetical matchup with state Attorney General Thomas Reillyby almost 10 points: 49.1 percent to 39.6 percent. There was a biggender gap in the numbers: men preferred Reilly by an amount within themargin of error, 46.3 percent to 43.4 percent, whereas women broke forReilly 51.6 percent to 36.2 percent.
- NewYork Sen. Hillary Clinton trounced Sen. John Kerry 51 to 33 percent. "Itlooks like even the Democrats in Massachusetts have lost faith in JohnKerry," said MassachusettsRepublican Party Executive Director Timothy O’Brien. "If he’s losing by 18 points in his home state, it’s an indicationof problems with any future aspirations."
