The Somerville News is reporting that Somerville Alderman Sean O’Donovan and Sean Fitzgerald, Sen. Shannon’s chief of staff, are both in the race to fill the seat vacated by Sen. Shannon’s death. The same News story reports that state Rep. Paul Donato (D-Medford) will not run. The two Seans join already-declared candidate Pat Jehlen (D-Somerville) in what looks certain to be a very crowded field.
The News also quotes an anonymous Beacon Hill source as saying that the dates for the special election to fill the seat will likely be August 30 for the primary and September 27 for the general election, although another source apparently said that the elections might be sooner.

Answer at last. Charlie Shannon ran against Sal Albano as an independent. Albano was not popular and in trouble, but there was a crowded field in primary, so he ran as independent with intention of switching to dem if he won. He did and he did. Later he switched to repub after weld got in, then switched back to dem.Oh MY GOD! The Globe was wrong.

Well put David. I am naive. How come Novak escapes. Is the justice depart that rigged? Is it controlled from the vp office? These reporters did the right thing and did not print the info.It appears that they do not have a privledge and can be held in contempt. It is just that this selective prosecution stinks. (“stinks” – look it up in Black’s law dictionary after “shit case” and before “stoned” all terms heard in court houses on a daily basis.)

Why Novak is apparently not yet implicated is the $64,000 question surrounding this whole mess. I floated a theory here, a little while back, that goes like this: Novak has already testified voluntarily before the grand jury; he lied; the prosecutor knows he lied; and that’s why the prosecutor so desperately wants Miller’s and Cooper’s testimony – so that he can nail Novak for perjury. We may never find out for sure, but I have not seen any other explanation that is convincing on Novak’s apparent immunity.

That is a good theorey because and hopefully in line with the truth. At least then it is not a bag job and good prosecutorial tactics.

As I sytated before, I want gays to have all the rights of straights in marriage, and I could not care less if it is called marriage or not. I do object to this being called a civil rights issue and comparing this to civil rights activities of the 60s. Comparing a person opposed to gay marriage to Ku Klux Klan, which is being done, is tasteless.Your analysis is very reasonable David.
