The WaPo reports that Senate majority leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) will very likely attempt to invoke the nucular option (a ruling that filibusters on judicial nominees are not permitted) within the next few weeks. Democrats continue to threaten scorched earth tactics in response.
Bring it on, Fristie.

Frist’ll need 50, but he won’t get: * 44 Dems * 1 Ind (Jeffords) * McCain (R-AZ) * Chaffee (R-RI)So, the Dems need 4 more. Likely candidates:Collins (ME), Gregg (NH), Hagel (NE), Lugar (IN), Snowe (ME), Sununu (NH), Warner (VA)Warner, while no moderate, is a self described “traditionalist.”The GOP is forcing the issue now… I wonder if they would wait until 2007 if they felt good about picking up seats in the senate. Or, perhaps, they feel that they can leverage this into senate pickups then.
