A couple of reports about a press conference held this morning in Somerville suggest that the Green Line is definitely heading all the way to West Medford, despite the apparent misgivings of some in that community. I haven’t been able to find anything more definite about what was actually said at the press conference, or what the route will actually be (if that’s even decided yet) – will update if I find something.

UPDATE (5/19): Here is the Globe’s slightly more detailed report of the press conference. Sounds like the current plan is to go to West Medford (I still haven’t found a map that shows exactly where), but there’s still lots of studying, commenting, blah blah blah to go on before the project is finished in, oh, 2014. Don’t hold your breath. (See also Brittain33’s comment below.)

My friend was at the press conference. They announced that they wanted to extend the Green Line to West Medford. Mayor McGlynn said that he thought there should be “more studies” about the impact on West Medford but didn’t outright oppose it. I don’t believe they discussed the number and location of specific stops, but they did state there would be a spur to Union Square and a main route to West Medford.

I do not think West Medford can handle the congestion a green line extension will bring. There is a communter rail stop there that gets people to Noprth Station much faster then a green line trolly can.The west medfford extension does not make sense. The Union Square extension does.

hello, not to change the subject, but….it has been over a week since the rumors of mike capuano jumping in the govs race have been swirling. You and .098 said nothiong. Today there is a nice article in globe on Capuano blasting Reilly on his wishy washy stance on gay marriage. And, i know it is just past noon, and you have real lives, but .08 and you have not mentioned this.I know you are in luv with Patrick, and it makes me wonder.Thje eighth is one of the most notable seats ion the House and has legacy. The Barrios question alone should draw comment – switching races at this point. Are you not commenting because Capuano’s appearance hurts your candidate (Patrick)

More importantly, what about Capuano looking like he is going to jump in. If he does, who will run for the eighth congressional. Jared Barrios/ ha ha ha Alice Wolf, Joe Curtatone, Gene O’Flaherty, the new somerville rep, plus some b and c list celebratie, ah la marjorie Claprood eight years ago. Ben Affleck or Matt Damon perhaps?Could be great raceand Capuano could steal nomination from current favorite (in my view) Deval Patrick. The silence on this is deafening. Is there some re-grouping go on?hmmmmmmm

Oh, troll, can you really think so little of us? Don’t you know us better by now? Our hearts, they break…Seriously, I noted the Capuano possibility here a couple of days ago (third item down). And I hadn’t seen the little article in the Globe this morning (I cancelled my subscription, remember?) – so thank you for pointing it out.As for Patrick being “our” candidate, not so fast. Speaking for myself, I like what I’ve seen of the guy, and I confess to waxing rhapsodic when he jumped in – but that was mostly because I was thrilled that SOMEONE would be challenging Reilly instead of Reilly being handed the nomination without having to earn it. I still don’t feel like I know enough about what Patrick stands for to “endorse” him, and I’d frankly be delighted to see Capuano jump in – the more exciting this primary is, the better, as far as I’m concerned. As for the 8th Congressional District, I haven’t heard any more than what you’ve just said. I will await further details.

For my part, I think Capuano’s a terrific rep. I would definitely consider him. I’d like to hear him (and everyone else, including Patrick) speak a few more times, in various contexts, to get a feel for how they would lead. Obviously, I have some very subjective impressions about the various candidates, but that doesn’t mean that I’ve made up my mind yet. đŸ™‚

As for my accusation that you have not mentioned Capuano’s possible re-entry into govs’ race….I was thinking of someone else. Jack E. Robinson. Yeah, that’s the ticket, that’s who I was thinking of.Apologies to David

Brittain33, are you insane????????????? The people of West Medford DESPERATELY need the Green Line. You can’t wait two hours in the evenings and on weekends to take the @#*&@^!! commuter rail to Boston, Davis Square, or anywhere convenient. Right now, we’re stuck out in the middle of nowhere. The T will save us!!!!!!!!!
