I heard Mitt’s radio ads touting his presiding over the recovery of the state’s finances. Of course, he’s not mentioning that it cost us firefighters, teachers, local aid, and other stuff nobody cares about. >From Health Care for All’s blog, you can see how he does it, and unfortunately how our new legislature reacts: "Governor Romneyproposed cutting funding for the Free Care Pool by $120 million fromthis year’s amount — despite rising numbers of uninsured." The legislature restored only $85 million of that.
This is the wrong direction. I’ve written before about the monetary costs and benefits of insuring people, but let’s not forget about the moral cost of keeping people away from doctors: People die before their time. That is real. Mitt thinks that a 0.3% tax cut is worth people dying young. Consider that tradeoff.
