Boston’s known as a city with a pretty lively musical culture. Beyond the big-money, high-glamour organizations like the BSO and Handel and Haydn, the classical scene is teeming with smaller, entrepreneurial, innovative organizations run by people who feel there’s a niche to be filled — or merely an itch that needs to be scratched: there’s art song; music written by, like, people who are alive; folk song; a zillion choruses singing all manner of interesting stuff; you name it, it’s here.
And now they’re all going to take a hike.
Walk for Music is a fundraising event for many of the smaller music organizations in the area. Just take a look at the list, and you’ll get an idea of the variety of groups: Back Bay Chorale, the excellent PALS Children’s Chorus, the awesome Boston Modern Orchestra Project, the startling Firebird Ensemble … you name it.
Give the web page a look, and if you think that the small mammals of the local music scene deserve a habitat, sign up to support your favorite organization on the list. (Unfortunately, I will not be walking myself — I have a gig that day.)
