8 out of 9 messages on my answering machine since Saturday were from campaigns. Half from independent groups supporting Jehlen, half from Mackey’s campaign or his endorsers. I’d hoped to vote at 7 today but won’t vote until this afternoon, which means more phone calls. That’s all I can say.
Saw Jehlen on College Ave. in Medford in front of Tufts. Good showing by Callahan supporters in Medford Square. Mackey and Jehlen supporters in Davis.

Casey, Casey, Casey, Casey.Something wierd may be happening out there today.I undestand there was piece which attacked Casey directly and compared him to Jehlen. Lit piece actually got some votes for casey. May have been from MassEquity, but I am not sure. Stolen from, mostly Callahan and some Mackey. But the more Jehlen mail the more votes Mackey steals from her.Casey has worked on a targeted groupthrough out the district. I am changinf my prediction, Casey edges out Mackey.
ron-newmansays
My polling place is the Dilboy VFW post on Summer Street in Davis Square. Plenty of Mackey and Jehlen supporters holding signs. Also a couple folks holding signs for Rebekah Gewirtz, who is running for Ward 6 Alderman in the November city election. And one sign-holder against divestment from Israel (a referendum which may or may not be on the November ballot).
medhbhsays
I voted in Medford’s 6-2, in a tiny community building at the end of a cul-de-sac, at about 8:45 this morning. A few people were in and out while I was there, mostly older folks who didn’t seem to be voting before heading in to an office. One Jehlen supporter holding signs–no other campaigns were there.Jehlen supporters holding signs in Powderhouse Square, and near the Davis T on College Ave. Not sure if other campaigns were there–may have been, but I didn’t notice.Maybe it’s just the corner of Medford that I live in, but I haven’t seen any material for Casey’s campaign in the neighborhood. No mail, no lawn signs, no supporters holding signs.
the-trollsays
those houses without signs, those cars without bumber stickers. Sura are a lot of them
the-trollsays
only kidding. What part of medford is 6-2? Is it near somerville border. Powderhouse square and College ave should be prime jehlen stand out place. Anyone from Winchester, woburn or north Medford voted?

If you saw people standing with signs on College Avenue in Somerville, they were probably in front of Ciampa Manor, a senior citizen building which serves as a polling place. Here’s a list of all Somerville polling places.
the-trollsays
any turnout info? Is any candidate using poll checkers?
medhbhsays
Troll, to answer your question: yes, my corner of Medford is near the Somervile line, the chunk bounded by Rte 16, Boston Ave, Winthrop Street. And, my point re: no signs was that I haven’t seen Casey signs around here. Plenty of Jehlen signs, good number of Mackey signs, and a sprinkling of Callahan signs. And, frankly, my house doesn’t have a sign because I rent, and I didn’t want to make waves with my landlord. I don’t have a car, so no bumper sticker, either–but even if I had a car, I wouldn’t put my candidate’s sticker on it–I don’t put bumper stickers of any sort, political, smart-ass, or cutesy, on my car. One of my quirks. So, I’m not sure that generalizations (from previous posts, not today’s) about who doesn’t have signs on their lawns, and why, are useful.
suesays
Callahan had all the cars on my block fliered, and I saw his people in Medford Square. I voted at 7:15am in Medford 6-2 and didn’t see anybody with any signs.

My unofficial survey at work among people who are generally liberal but not strongly connected to politics is that they’re voting for Jehlen, but don’t feel they know a lot about the race. They liked her mailings, they said what she stood for and these people said “that’s who I’m for.” They know nothing about Mackey although one knew he got a lot of newspaper endorsements. Mix of Medford and Somerville.

I say Jehlen wins, but not by a lot. She has by far the best field organization, the most volenteers, ect. There were a good 30-40 people holding signs in Davis yesterday afternoon. She also has poll checkers at every precinct, which Callahan doesnt. Mackey might, I dunno. I cant see Callahan winning. Jehlen has been sending out a lot more mailings then Mackey or Callahan. Casey doesnt have a shot, he will be very lucky if he isnt 4th. My best guess…Jehlen-35-40%Mackey-30-35%Callahan-25-30%Casey-Some small numberOf course we could all be wrong and Jehlen could win in a landslide….I hope.
the-sound-of-one-hand-clappingsays
“I cant see Callahan winning”.- Very easy, all he needs is 70% of the Medford vote and a Jehlen/Mackey split in Somerville”Casey doesnt have a shot, he will be very lucky if he isnt 4th”.- Ignore the troll at your own peril.”Jehlen has been sending out a lot more mailings then Mackey”.- Yes and boy has Mass Equality hurt themselves (and possibly Jehlen as well). I was voter #394 at 4:50 PM at my Somerville precinct. Signs: several Pat Jehlen, several pro- and anti-divestment, no one else. One poll checker who I presume to be Jehlen’s because they have volunteers to spare on the streets and because she looked the part. I couldn’t tell if she checked my name or not, and I’m only on Jehlen’s list. Obviously she wasn’t going to give away any secrets. My precinct cast about 1500 ballots in the last Presidential election, and that’s probably the high-water mark for turnout. Three more hours and all the after work votes to come, so it’s going to be at least 600 votes here before the end of the night, probably more.

I think the consensus is that Mackey has cornered the market in strong ID’s. They have identified through calls and knocking a heavy amount of 1’s (supporters). If they are effective in pulling out their vote (especially Somerville), and from what I hear from another campaign Mackey’s GOTV operation is impressive, they edge out Jehlan. Callahan will pull strong in Medford with Mackey second, but the peripherals of Winchester and Woburn will give the edge to Jehlan due to targeted mailing. This will come down to a two or three point race with Mackey the slight winner

There were also a bunch of wet Callahan flyers littering streets where people had pitched them after pulling them off windshields. While I’m angry at the litterers, I’m equally bugged by Callahan’s campaign for doing that overnight in the rain–what were they thinking people would do with them? Not hearing anything about the Repub primary, if no one votes Repub do they not have a candidate or is he the default?
