OK, so the refugees (yes, they’re seeking refuge) are only showing up in Cape Cod in small numbers. But there are still a lot of people who have lost their homes in LA/MS, and coming to New England. This is the Katrina Diaspora, and these folks need help.
Lynne of Left in Lowell has struck again, helping to found Aid and Relief to Katrina Survivors of New England, which describes itself like so:
ARKS New England is a newly formed volunteer coalition-building relief organization currently working in the Greater Boston area and beyond to help expedite the relief efforts for those people – both hurricane survivors and volunteers – who are finding navigating the post-relief efforts across the country difficult. Many are getting lost in the shuffle. We aim to connect the generous people, churches, businesses, and individuals of the Northeast with those who need their help the most.
So many have lost everything and cannot even fathom how to relocate themselves, whether that’s for short-term or long-term shelter. The states and national organizations like the Red Cross are overwhelmed, so it is up to the citizens of the country to rise up and lend a helping hand.
