Daniel Schorr, elder statesman of NPR, just had a terrific and necessary commentaryon All Things Considered, about the $50 billion of budget cuts about topass the US House. Of course, these mostly impact social programs forthe most vulnerable in society: Medicare, school lunches, help for thedisabled and elderly, etc. Could that money come out of the $14.5 billion in subsidies for oil companies? Or the estate tax? Nope, gotta crush the poor.
Here’s the nutshell:
When House Republicans talk about reducing entitlements, they weren’t talking about those to oil companies.
The audio clip will be up around 7:30 EST tonight at the link above.

Sometimes Daniel Schorr annoys the piss out of me, but sometimes he’s on the money.

The Senate is no better, where John McCain was part of a group proposing an across the board 5% cut on all discretionary (and you know how that’ll be defined) spending. No profile in courage here; why won’t McCain go back to the pork spending and corporate wet kisses in the highway and energy bills he decried at the time?
