Here’s the now-famous impromptu debate on whether children of illegal immigrants should be entitled to pay in-state tuition between AG and Gov candidate Tom Reilly and Lt. Gov. and probable Gov candidate Kerry Healey, as heard on the Joe DePetro show on 680 WRKO. Reilly calls in at about 6:30 into the tape (before that, DePetro tosses softballs to Healey allowing her to bash Reilly). It’s well worth a listen. Regardless of what you think of the merits, you pretty much have to conclude that Reilly – measured, calm, compassionate – was the winner over Healey, who came across as obnoxious, a bit frantic, and cold.

Actually, not sure that I think that Reilly won–Kealey seemed to have a better argument and the current law on her side. Reilly made it sound like he was already Gov trying to move a platform along. Seemed like Kealey’s point about the Attny. Gen. enforcing law rather than creating law was solid. Reilly kept saying the same thing over and over about how these kids were starting the process of becoming citizens and Kealey came back with several concerns about that. Anyway, I don’t think that Reilly won–but then I don’t know all that much about the issue. Feel free to share URLs where there’s more information. Thx.
