I called Romney’s office about this yesterday. After a couple of transfers, I got someone who works directly in Romney’s office, and I asked him why Romney thought it was okay for hospitals to violate the law on emergency contraception. He said no, nobody would “violate” the law, this was merely an “interpretation” based on a conflict between the new law and some other laws. I asked him how Romney could presume to make an exception to the well accepted rule (and judicial precedent) that if there is a conflict between two statutes, the later statute controls (that is, the law that was passed more recently, wins the conflict). He had no good answer so he gave me some platitude about Romney being “committed to ensuring that the law is interpreted and followed fairly”. I told him I thought “Romney is committed to frustrating the will of the people of Massachusetts”, then we both said goodbye and hung up.
Personally, I like ‘turnaround’ better than flip-flop for Mitt, because of the obvious play off of his book title, and his self-description as a ‘turnaround artist’. Plus, I get to imagine attack ads featuring Mitt set to the tune of ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ by Bonnie Tyler.

Plus, I think it’s time to put those 2004 demons to rest.
