Samuel Alito told the Senate <a
href=”http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051206/ap_on_go_co/alito_2″>he’d
recuse himself from cases involving Vanguard investment management.
He then did not do so in 2002.
So who should be afraid? Whispers say… <a
href=”http://www.usnews.com/usnews/politics/whispers/articles/051219/19whisplead.htm”>Ted
Kennedy and Joe Biden!
The GOP team working with the White House to win
confirmation of conservative Supreme Court nominee Samuel
Alito is
putting out a warning to Alito’s Democratic critics: Question his
ethics and character at your own peril. In their sights: Sens. <span
class=”bold”>Edward Kennedy and Joe Biden.
“We’re
absolutely prepared to have an ethics debate with Teddy Kennedy,” says
one insider who mentioned the “C” word: Chappaquiddick. “Questioning
Alito’s credibility and character will be hit back hard,” said one of
the Alito supporters.
Listen guys… y’all have been mentioning the “C” word for thirty-six
years, i.e. the equivalent of six full Senate terms. And he
keeps getting elected. And it’s going to happen again next year.
I mean… have you ever actually smelled desperation before?
All this means is that the White House does not want to discuss the Vanguard
issue at all — it smells bad. As far as
I can tell, Alito’s not going to win this discussion on the merits. He may yet get to the Supreme Court, but it’s not going to
be because they had an “ethics debate with Teddy Kennedy” or Joe Biden.
Good luck with that, folks. If that counts as playing “hardball” maybe
we can expect to see “<a

Comfy Chair” next.
